Rule III ( Statement )

Ex : She informs me, "I will be absent from 16-25 June."
-----> She infromed me that she would be absent from 16-25 June

And answer them ya!


1. She informs me, "We have been tired."
2. She informs me, "I wasn't happy with my scores!"
3. She informs me, "They are coming here soon."
4. She informs me, "He has been the principle since I entered."

And the answers are.....

1. She informed me that they had not been tired
2. She infromed me that she had not been happy with her scores
3. She informed me that they were coming there soon
4. She informed me that he had been the principle since she had entered

Reported Speech part 2

Rule II ( W-H Question )

W : Who, Where, When, What, Why

H : How

Ex : She asks me, "Where did you meet him?"
----> She asked me where I had met him

Answer them!


1. She asks me, "How was your boyfriend?"
3. She asks me, "Where had you been?"
3. She asks me," What time could you fix my car?"

And the answers are....

1. She asked me how my boyfriend had been
2. She asked me where I had had been
3. She asked me what time I could fix her car

Simple past ---- Past perfect
Past continuous ---- Past perfect continuous
Past perfect ---- Past past perfect

Would, should, could = NO CHANGE!
Must = Ought to

Yesterday ---- The day before
Last night ---- The night before

There are 5 rules in reported speech

1. Rule I ( Yes - No Question )

Ex :
She asks me, "Do you understand my lesson?"
= She asked me IF I understood her lesson
She asks me, "Did your mom go with you last night?"
= She asked me IF my mom had gone with me the night before

And answer them!

1. She asks me, "Didn't you play guitar last night?"
2. She asks me, "Will you be my valentine next week?"
3. She asks me, "Was he busy 2 days ago?"
4. She asks me, "Weren't you swimming when I came?"
5. She asks me, "Would you come to my party?"

And the answers are......

1. She asked me IF I HAD PLAYED GUITAR THE NIGHT BEFORE OR NOT
2. She asked me IF I WOULD BE HER VALENTINE THE FOLLOWING WEEK
3. She asked me IF HE HAD BEEN BUSY TWO DAYS AGO
4. She asked me IF I HAD BEEN SWIMMING WHEN SHE HAD COME
5. She asked me IF I WOULD COME TO HER PARTY
